was getting people to help promote MOSI Tampa online, including their new exhibit Body Worlds, as part of a "Virtual Ambassadorship". I'm not much of a blogger but I knew how to make some beats and rhymes! I appointed myself the unofficial rapbassador. (rap+ambassador) If I can get one extra person to Tampa's MOSI... then its worth it!
I've been the Chicago's MOSI, the Franklin Institute in Philly and the Deutsches Museum in Munich. I want MOSI Tampa to shine the brightest! Be sure to follow @mositampa on Twitter!
Thank you for listening!

friend me at myspace.com/funky49music and subscribe to my blog at funky49dotcom.blogspot.com Notes: 01 'mad science' is a cover of a friend's song, fanatical 02 'thats not imax' extoles the goodness of the imax theater 03 'the future is calling' is a cry to reduce+reduce+recycle 04 'your body is a world' tells you to go visit the Body Worlds exhibit 05 'mosi got the party' is self explainatory 06 'still nerdy' is autobiographical on funky49 07 my chopped & screwed interpretation of 'still nerdy' 08 'starblazer' originally released on the Starblazer album, available on iTunes/CDBaby/etc
Thanks to Ham-STAR for being co-interested in portmanteaus which helped inspire the title "Rapbassador". |

funky49 Back in 1997 I worked at an IBM helpdesk with my friend, Mike Fresh. One day he was frustrated because someone he was helping could not come up with their own new password. Finally, exasperated, Mike said "Fine! Your password is funky49!". I thought it was so hilarious someone wasn't able to come up with a password that included so many letters and a number plus 'funky49' just sounded cool. That night I made a mix tape of all of the beats, loops, audio projects, etc I was working on at the time. I labeled this the 'funky49 mix tape' and gave it to Mike to bump in his Prelude. The weekend prior to Mike Fresh's outburst, he was at his parents place digging through their records. It is possible that the James Gang song "Funk #49" got stuck in his mind. Mike Fresh later introduced me to redvoid and spilled a smoothie on the mix tape. Starblazer comes from one of my favorite cartoons as a kid... the Japanimation "Star Blazers" aka "Space Cruiser Yamato". It became a single and album name and then a second alias. Superfiends is a twist on the super-hero cartoon "Superfriends". It's the name that redvoid and I create our 'RPM Challlenge' projects under. 2 Def Mice comes from "2 Bad Mice" who were famous for a song called Bombscare (which became a popular breakbeat to sample). This is another project moniker for redvoid and me. Doctor Basswave was a rap character invented for the Emergency Pizza Party album "Zombie Emergency Defense". |

Emergency Pizza Party won the 2008 Song Fight! Live competition with Calico Alley! It's August 16, 2008. The Song Fight! song title of the week is Calico Alley. In the span of a few hours the backing track is created and verses written. The group heads out to Song Fight! Live in Tampa, Florida and performs a set and afterwards performed Calico Alley LIVE with incredibly little rehersing! After the show, food was had at Mema's Alaskan Tacos and the vocals recorded at funky49's. The verses are (in order) by mc wreckshin, Sir-Up, Jaylyn, Benjamin Bear and funky49. funky49 is the beatmaker (with some great feedback from bbear!). Samples were pulled from The Aristocats, Lady & the Tramp, Checker's/Rally "Rap Cat" commercial, Sublime and random cat sounds. Download Calico Alley | 4.7meg | 3:40min note: The Song Fight peeps were all cool, but the prize for awesome goes out to Hoblit. I'm not sure if he had more fun hanging out and being silly or running around being the sound engineer to make sure the show went on! Project-D's pictures from 2008's Song Fight! Live (yes, there are pictures of EPP here!) |
